The reporter from the newspaper got more than she bargained for when she drove over from Baton Rouge to interview Fr. Calais on his knowledge of the little Cajun saint, Charlene Richard — Fr. showed up for the meeting pedaling his bicycle backwards, a skill he mastered as a teenager but kept up well into his adult years. When the story and the photo ran in the paper, it bore an unexpected fruit: a reader who had been away from the sacraments for 15 years called him to make an appointment for confession. “I have been looking for a compassionate priest” she said, “and when I saw your picture on that bicycle, I knew that I finally found one!”
These recordings on video DVD and audio CD capture 23 amazing stories of evangelization filled with all of the unexpected twists, turns, humor and tender mercies Fr. Calais experienced as he served the people he loved.
